Heart test
ECG Test in Karkardooma (East Delhi) and Maharani Bagh (South Delhi)
An ECG (electrocardiogram) records the electrical signals that make your heart beat. Small sticky pads are placed on your chest, arms and legs, and a machine traces the signal for a few seconds. It is painless, uses no radiation, and is usually the first heart test a doctor asks for.

- About 10 minutes
- Where
- Karkardooma, East Delhi
Maharani Bagh (at Medicalinic), South Delhi - Results
- The tracing is ready immediately and is reviewed by the cardiologist, who explains what it shows and whether any further test is needed.
Why the ECG test is done
What it checks:
- Heart rate, and whether the rhythm is regular
- Irregular rhythms such as atrial fibrillation, and extra or missed beats
- Delays in the heart’s electrical wiring (heart block, bundle branch block)
- Signs of reduced blood supply to the heart muscle, or of a previous heart attack
- Thickening of the heart muscle, often from long-standing high blood pressure
- Effects of some medicines and of blood salts such as potassium
Why your doctor may have advised it
Common reasons include:
- Chest pain, pressure or discomfort
- Palpitations: a racing, pounding or skipping heartbeat
- Breathlessness, dizziness or fainting
- High blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol or a family history of heart disease
- A health check-up, or a check before surgery
- Follow-up of known heart disease, or starting or changing heart medicines
How to prepare
- No fasting or special preparation is needed; take your usual medicines
- Wear a top that is easy to open or remove at the chest
- Avoid body lotion or oil on the chest that day, so the pads stick well
- Bring previous ECGs and a list of your medicines
What happens
- You lie on your back with your chest, wrists and ankles uncovered
- Ten small sticky pads are placed on the skin; a little hair may be clipped so they stick
- You lie still and breathe normally for a few seconds while the tracing is recorded
- The pads are removed and you can carry on with your day

Questions about the ECG test
Does an ECG hurt?
No. The pads only record signals from your heart; no electricity passes into your body. Removing the pads can feel like peeling off a plaster.
Can a normal ECG rule out heart disease?
Not always. A resting ECG shows the heart’s rhythm and electrical pattern at that moment. Narrowed arteries can give a normal resting ECG, so the doctor may also advise a TMT, stress echo or 2D echo.
How long does an ECG take?
The recording takes a few seconds; the whole test takes about 10 minutes including getting ready.
Can I have an ECG if I have a pacemaker?
Yes. It is safe, and the ECG also shows how the pacemaker is working.
Where can I get an ECG done?
