Stress Echo Test in Karkardooma, East Delhi

A stress echo combines a 2D echo with exercise. Pictures of the heart are taken at rest, you then exercise on a treadmill, and more pictures are taken straight after. If part of the heart muscle is not getting enough blood, it moves less well under stress, and the echo can show where.

Time needed
45 to 60 minutes in total
Where
Karkardooma, East Delhi
Results
The cardiologist compares the pictures and discusses the result with you.

Why the Stress Echo test is done

What it checks:

  • Whether any area of heart muscle has reduced blood supply during exercise
  • Which part of the heart, and roughly which artery, may be affected
  • How the heart’s pumping changes with effort
  • How some valve problems behave during exercise

Why your doctor may have advised it

Common reasons include:

  • Chest pain or breathlessness on exertion
  • An unclear or borderline TMT result
  • A resting ECG that makes a TMT hard to interpret
  • Deciding whether an angiogram is needed
  • Assessing known coronary disease or a valve problem

How to prepare

  • Have a light meal 2 to 3 hours before
  • Wear comfortable clothes and walking or sports shoes
  • Avoid tea, coffee and smoking for a few hours before the test
  • Ask your doctor whether to stop any medicine before the test; do not stop medicines on your own
  • Bring previous echo, TMT and ECG reports

What happens

  1. A resting echo is recorded first, lying on your left side
  2. You exercise on the treadmill with ECG and BP monitoring
  3. As soon as you stop, you lie back down quickly for the second set of echo pictures
  4. The resting and exercise pictures are compared side by side

Results

The cardiologist compares the pictures and discusses the result with you. A normal stress echo makes significant blockage much less likely.

Questions about the Stress Echo test

Is a stress echo better than a TMT?

It gives more information because it shows the heart muscle itself, not just the ECG. The doctor will advise which test suits you.

Is there any radiation?

No. A stress echo uses ultrasound only.

How long does it take?

Allow 45 to 60 minutes. The exercise part usually lasts under 15 minutes.

Is it safe?

Yes for most people. It is supervised by the cardiac team and stopped if you develop symptoms.
